Priscilla Layne
Associate Professor of German
Priscilla Layne's interdisciplinary approach to 20th- and 21st-century German literature and culture focuses in particular on questions of race and gender. In addition to her publications on Turkish-German culture, the dialectic of Blackness and whiteness, hip hop and (post)subculture studies, her forthcoming book manuscript with The University of Michigan Press entitled White Rebels in Black: Appropriating Black Popular Culture in Postwar Germany is set to release April 2018. She is the co-editor along with Melissa Etzler of Rebellion and Revolution: Defiance in German Language, History and Art (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2010) and has translated into English works by Feridun Zaimoglu and Nurkan Erpulat.
